As a bold, adaptive mission-enterprise driven to extend classical and symphonic music “off the pedestal,” CutTime Productions is now developing new, personalized services.

Classical music remains one of the most powerful art forms today. Yet we can safely say that most American non-musicians understand too little to enjoy classical music, it’s historic development, psychological theories of mind, and potential benefits to our personal lives. If half of these persons harbor curiosity, and yet don’t have any convenient way to start using it, CutTime® now offers private teach-ins for your home, office, school, and other small group settings at reasonable cost per person.

Called I Hear a Symphony, these services for adults bypass the proverbial academic lecture, concert preview, or YouTube video, to deliver a playful, enthusiastic, personal, and professional perspective of our teaching artists in a series of 90-minute or 2-hour demonstrations, which include a broad historical overview, music listening with pantomime, and most importantly, active client participation. Clients are guaranteed to acquire the key learning experiences and listening information critical for the personal meaning, emotional access, and deep catharsis promised by classical music.

These services come in two varieties.

Personal classical music lessons
The teaching artist will come to your home or a designated quiet space to personally introduce many of the key concepts that make instrumental classical music enjoyable one-on-one. Rather than teaching how to read music (unless that is requested), this professional musician teaches how to feel music, including identifying recurring themes and motifs, what to expect from counterpoint, the purpose of contrasting themes and movements, discovering implied meanings, use of silence, finding and keeping the meter, the spontaneity of live performance, as well as the historic arc that made this art form so powerful. The artist will work with the client in multiple visits to identify their favorite composers, eras, and specific works, fave forms or current performers. The teaching artist will use a laptop to listen and dissect music, display organizational charts, examine a written score and online materials that make music more visual. Space and setting, where possible, should allow for private, dramatic physical movements, such as acting out of the music. We’ll even teach you the basics of conducting.

Classical music listening parties
The teaching artist will come to your home, office, school or designated quiet space to personally introduce just a few of the key concepts that make instrumental classical music enjoyable to groups of 3-15 persons in a single 60-90-minute session. Using some of the same methods above, this professional musician will use a projector to display information on a free wall or a flatscreen, and a bluetooth speaker for all to hear. These services will not drill down for individual favorites. Yet group learning, esp. in a party setting, can be particularly fun with lots of humor, uninhibited dancing, and learning conducting. Space and setting ideally should allow for such.
