CutTime Simfonica plays Sidewalk Festival

2023 UPDATE: Following the collapse of in-person concerts during the pandemic, the clock has run short for artistic director Rick Robinson’s bass-playing career. Major changes were announced in his July 2022 Newsletter, such as the big move from Detroit to Pittsburgh, and his transition from symphony double bassist to composer-arranger focused on establishing OMG Classical, recording, and orchestrating his best works.

CutTime Simfonica® string quartet plays Vanka Murals Holiday Lights Tour

The surrealist murals by the Croatian artist Maxo Vanka are a local Pittsburgh treasure being restored diligently by the Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka. With recent restoration work completed, this national treasure speaks louder than before. Paired with some of the most gorgeous and dramatic classical music, this pre-tour concert will bring the walls to life, together with a thought-provoking narrative by composer Rick Robinson, Mr. CutTime himself. Rick on double bass will be joined by Beo String Quartet members Andrew Giordano (“Gio”) on 1st violin and Jason Neukom on 2nd, and Bastard Bearded Irishmen’s Stephen Weiss on acoustic viola. Tickets are generally $20 with open seating.
The Save Maxo Vanka Holiday Lights Tours feature pre-tour performances between Christmas and New Years Eve; normally shorter. The 7p-8 “tour” is spotlighting the sanctuary murals with docents giving key context and personal accents. Before that, at 6:15, our 45-minute reading will feature a bold mix of familiar and slow classics with surprises. Expect music such as Bach’s most famous Air, Sibelius’ Andante Festivo, plus jazz, folk and rock covers, and Mr. CutTime’s own Serenade, if time. The lively acoustics do not favor the jazzy and lively music thematic to the CutTime® brand. There will be no drummer for this one.
