New Classical describes the call for very casual, adventurous, tech-using, and informative concert styles, in contrast to the formal concerts that maximize the experience of the artworks. New classical leans commercial, to make art and the public domain meet the needs of a wider and deserving public. And yet it is also a social mission to feed the masses hungry for rich, nutritious music to chew on. Crossover music (hybrid, jazz, rock, soul. gospel, Latin, folk elements), very broadly, form a third of its programming. We must connect with communities across a magical bridge made of multiple musical styles to bring real classical to real people for a few minutes. It is this alternation that acculturates curious minds. Meeting new audiences for music around food, drink, humor, key insights, beat, and direct experiences, pumps classical music across the bridge. A little anything goes brings new life to classical and even symphonic music.
Do you see? It’s time to cut classical loose… with a wider public.
A New Era
In 2022 Robinson and CutTime Productions moved to Pittsburgh as he announced his early retirement from bass playing altogether. So we have officially ended the Classical Revolution Detroit series after 12 years, and launched a new series in June 2023 called OMG Classical. It may end with him or continue with new leadership.
