We can in fact carry symphonic standards on the cult of personality, emotions, and commonalities that start to create new context with outsiders for traditional concerts. We can start to make a pleasing habit of it. When we can dial back the formalities of community and educational events– when we can offer key listening information in passing– we can leap off the pedestal, beyond dumbing down, to warm up and smarten up the arts. Even for many veteran listeners, this major update to classical music is long overdue.
